Updated Play Performance Schedule

Final Decision for Performances

Thank you for your swift and candid feedback on the modified performance schedule. This situation is of course less than ideal. After careful consideration, we have decided to move forward with this modified performance schedule. Please note, some times are slightly different than originally proposed.

Friday, March 13

HATS – cast/crew call time 4:15, house opens 4:30, show starts at 5P

Saturday, March 14

CATS – cast/crew call time 4:15, house opens 4:30, show starts at 5P

Sunday, March 15

HATS – cast/crew call time 4:15, house opens 4:30, show starts at 5P

CATS – cast/crew call time 5:45, house opens 6:00, show starts at 6:30P

If you cannot make the performances for your performer because of the schedule change (we understand this sucks! one of us co-producers is missing the final performance for her kiddo), you can come to a dress rehearsal.

Tuesday, March 10 – 4P-6P Cats

Thursday, March 12 – 4P-6P Hats

How we arrived here

After weighing a myriad of options in the very short amount of time we had to make a decision, we think this is our best option to ensure that the kids get to perform while minimizing the risk of disease as much as possible. It’s not possible for us to wait and resume rehearsals and schedule new performances because the Bryant school calendar is filled with other events. We will be competing for space with existing scheduled events as well as everyone else trying to reschedule. Additionally, Seattle Performers will likely not be available as they have more shows coming up, and we cannot run the shows without them. What this means is that we were having to decide between allowing the kids to perform now or cancelling all together.

The vast majority of you shared little to no concern about moving forward with these performances. A few of you shared some concerns about gathering more than 100 people together for this event, and we share some of your concerns. As of yesterday, King County Public Health recommendations are as follows:

Public Health is aware that events are being postponed, employers are encouraging that employees work from home and many schools have chosen to temporarily close. Public Health supports these decisions. While evidence currently available is that the vast majority of children and most adults are not at risk for severe illness, we do know that some members of our community are at higher risk. These include:

  • People 60 and older
  • People with underlying health conditions including heart disease, lung disease, or diabetes
  • People who have weakened immune systems
  • People who are pregnant

People at higher risk should stay home and away from large groups of people as much as possible, including public places with lots of people and large gatherings where there will be close contact with others. More detail on these measures is available at www.kingcounty.gov/covid

King County is not mandating that events be cancelled. They support the decisions of those who are, but there is no directive to do so from them.

Jet City Improv is a very small theater and will accommodate fewer people than the Bryant lunchroom. This means that we will be restricting ticket sales to parents and siblings (six tickets per family total) in order to make sure that we all see our own kids perform. This also reduces the number of others from the community who could potentially bring in a germ. These kids are at school together all day and they bring their germs home. The vast majority of us in that theater together will already be exposed to whatever is going around Bryant, even if we were to cancel performances. Because of this, we feel the risk is lower than other community events that invite a wider range of the general public. That said, if you, your child, or a family member is in one of the high risk categories, we understand if you cannot participate. Theaters around Seattle are following protocol of refunding tickets to those who are sick, and doing a deeper clean between performances. Seattle Performers use this theater regularly for their student performances and have been sanitizing after each show. We will also be asking for volunteers to join us ahead of each rehearsal and performance to sanitize seats and door handles.

We are not promoting this event to the larger Bryant community or doing broad ticket sales. Students at Bryant may get to see a review of the show during school hours.

Stay tuned for more info about volunteer opportunities, rehearsals, costumes, tickets, and performances. Please let us know if you have questions or if your student won’t be able to participate. Thank you for your patience and kindness as we figure this out. See you at tech rehearsal tomorrow!

Seussical News — Week 7

Greetings Seussical parents!

Here’s your Seussical week 7 newsletter. Please read all of it. This is how we will communicate important news for the coming week.

Costumes: Cast Families, tomorrow is the costume parade.  We ask that your cast member wear their show base layer (black pants or leggings and black short or long sleeve top – no tears or logos) to rehearsal and bring their costumes with them in a bag.  They will be released from rehearsal in groups to go to the parade. THEY WILL PUT THEIR COSTUME ON OVER THEIR BASE LAYER to show Jessilee, our production manager (costumes will always be worn over base layers). When done, they will take their costume off, put it back in their bag and go back to rehearsal. If there are any pieces missing or any changes are needed Jessilee will take notes and we will email you. They will bring their costumes home again and they won’t need to come back to Bryant until Dress rehearsal on Saturday, March 14.  We do this early so if any changes need to be made we have time to adjust.

Show shirts are ready and we will send them home with your student on Thursday. If your child is a Who, they can just show what they are adding on top of the show shirt tomorrow  – wearing it over their base layer.

Crew Families  – crew will be wearing all black for the shows – no tears or logos.  If you have it ready, please send your Crew member in their blacks to rehearsal tomorrow.  If you don’t, they will need to have them by March 14.

More Volunteer Opportunities: Thank you to those who have filled our volunteer slots for flat painting! We have more flat painting opportunities NEXT WEEK and none of the slots have been filled. We really need your help getting the sets painted! Also, we still have ONE slot open on Friday, 2/28 for installing the extensions to the stage. Please take a look at the Sign Up Genius for these volunteer opportunities.

Seussical Costumes

Hi Cats and Hats Cast Parents! I am writing to share important costume information for this year’s show. PLEASE READ THIS THOROUGHLY.

It is time to start looking in closets, talking to friends and family and finding your local Goodwill.  Swap.com is where I found a lot of Julius’ costume last year but you need to allow time for shipping. After reading this, Let us know if you have any questions about your childs’ costume needs or need help finding pieces – please don’t wait until the last minute.  And remember– there is a $25 limit per child. No need to go all out and this shouldn’t be stressful!

Costume Parade is Monday, February 24.  We need your child to bring their costumes to rehearsal that evening. That is your deadline.

Each child has a main role and they are playing a WHO except for HORTON and the CATS.  MR and MRS MAYOR and JOJO are always Whos so they don’t need an additional Who costume. This year’s company t-shirt will be a Who shirt and we are providing that. We are also providing the Fish and Weather costumes so if your child asks, we have that covered.

If your child’s costume has a button down shirt, tricky zipper, anything that is hard to get on and off, you may want to consider rigging this piece of clothing, replacing buttons with velcro, simplifying ties, buckles, etc.  If you would like help figuring this out, let us know.

Look here to find your child’s character and you will see a picture and descriptions (don’t forget to look at the Who page). These give you an idea of what kind of costume pieces we are looking for for each character. You don’t need to get exactly what is pictured.  We provide pictures to give you an idea but do pay attention to color requests!

Costume Plan:  ALL CAST AND CREW will come to dress rehearsals and show nights in what we are calling a base layer.  Black shorts, leggings or pants and a black t-shirt or tank top. When they arrive, they will get their costume box which will be stored at Bryant and add their costume pieces OVER their base layer (there will be no dressing room).  If they have more than one costume and a quick change, the may need to wear a couple of layers at once. When the show is done, they will take off their costumes, put them back in their box and wear their base layer home. Ideally they would wear black shoes but any dark shoes they can dance in will work.

Any questions?  Send them our way! Thank you so much for taking the time to costume your child.  We really appreciate it and hope you and your performer have a good time doing it.

Regards,

Liza and Jessilee (Production Manager and Crew Supervisor)
