Willy Wonka News– Week 7

Greetings Wonka parents!
There are less than 3 weeks til performances! Thank you for taking this ride with us. PLEASE READ TO THE END. This edition is packed with new info. And remember, these emails are archived on the school play website here along with a lot of other useful play info. Bookmark it for easy access!

Rehearsal Reminders:

Regular rehearsals this week on Monday and Thursday, as well as a rehearsal for the Oompa cast on Saturday. See below for more details. There are more rehearsal schedule changes, so please update your calendars! If you have a conflict with any of these, email us at bryantplay@gmail.com as soon as possible.

Saturday, March 9 – NO CREW

Oompa – 10:00a–12:30p

We will meet outside the Wedgwood Drama Studio on the corner of 35th and 95th.   We can’t meet at Bryant because it is not open.  LOOMPA cast IS NOT rehearsing

Saturday, March 16

Oompa – 12:45-2:45p     Loompa – 3:00-5:00p

Monday, March 18

Loompa – 6:00–7:15p     Oompa – 7:30-8:45p

Wednesday, March 20

5:15-6:30- Both Casts!

We are hoping to rehearse from 5:15-6:30 if Laser will accommodate.  Please hold that time now in your calendar.  It is awkward timing, but we are hoping you can make it happen. We feel that the kids will feel more prepared for performances if they don’t have a 3 day break between the last rehearsal and the first performance. Please let us know if your child can’t make it. Both Oompa and Loompa casts called at the same time.

Running Lines:

Please run lines with your child (you hold the script and read them the lines before and between their lines so they can practice their lines).  They should not need their script for ACT 1 at all now and should be close to off book for ACT 2. We are going to ask that there are no scripts in hand starting the 11th.

Costumes:

All cast parents received an email with their costume notes and our costume plan.  All crew parents received an email with info specific to what the crew will be wearing. Let us know if you have questions.

Volunteer Opportunities:

Next round of volunteer opportunities are coming soon. See the Sign Up Genius for more info. We will be adding shifts for:

  • March 9 Oompa Rehearsal– Now available on the Sign Up Genius!
  • Ticket sales on Thursday and Friday afternoon on the playground and before each performance
  • Performance set up – setting up cafeteria and backstage spaces

Costumes:

The Costume Parade is this MONDAY! Please send your kids to rehearsal with ALL their costume pieces in a container with a lid like a bankers box or plastic tub (with a lid). These boxes and costume pieces will come back home with them after rehearsal with instructions about any additions or edits that need to be made if necessary, as well as when costumes need to come back in their boxes to be stored at school.

Volunteer Opportunities:

  1. We need one more rehearsal chaperone for this Thursday’s rehearsal to go with crew.
  2. We are still in need of 5 more heavy lifters who will help set the stage thrust (stage extension) in the lunchroom on March 1st. Pretty please! The more strong backs we have for this the faster it will go.
  3. We need more flat painters on 3/4 and 3/7! You will be helping the crew paint scenes onto the flats. Scenes will already be drawn– you will just be filling in the color. It’s like those meditative adult coloring books but bigger and not meditative, because kids.

See the Sign Up Genius for more info.

Willy Wonka News– Week 6 MID WINTER BREAK

Greetings Wonka parents! PLEASE READ THIS ENTIRE EMAIL. And remember, these emails are archived on the school play website here along with a lot of other useful play info. Bookmark it for easy access!

Rehearsal Reminders:

No Rehearsal this week during Mid-Winter Break. Please have your students continue to listen to the songs online during this break. Encourage them to look ahead in their scrips and start memorizing the lines they know are theirs.

We also may need to schedule a make up rehearsal closer to the performance, possibly a Friday or Saturday in March. Stay tuned for more info on this.

Costumes:

The Costume Parade is on Feb. 25, which is our next rehearsal! PLEASE READ THIS THOROUGHLY and let us know if you have any questions about your students’ costume needs or need help finding pieces. Remember– there is a $25 limit per child. No need to go all out.

We’ve created a Google Sheet to share information about what you might need or what you might have to offer in terms of costumes so we all don’t have to purchase everything. If you need an item, post it on the sheet in the NEED columns. Everyone please look at the sheet to see if you have items to offer those who need them, or if you know you have something from the list that your child doesn’t need, go ahead and post it under the HAVE columns.

Your students must bring ALL their costume pieces with them for the next rehearsal on February 25th and they need to be in a container with a lid like a bankers box or plastic tub (with a lid).  Their black leggings/pants will go home with them, but the rest of the costume pieces will stay in their box at school until performances are over.

I know that if you ordered costume pieces online during the snowpocolypse those are possibly delayed. If this is the case, please print out a pic of the piece that’s missing to include in the box with other costume pieces. Once the piece arrives, your child can bring it to rehearsal to be added to their box.

  • Find your child’s name here to make sure you know all the parts they are playing.
  • Then look here to learn more about what kind of costume pieces we are looking for for each character.
  • Click here to purchase the Oompah Lumpah beanie (see links for more info). Chose the Neon Green option for your Oompah Lumpah. Please do this ASAP to make sure the hat arrives in time. Consider this as part of the $25 maximum for costumes.

More Volunteer Opportunities:

We are still in need of 5 more heavy lifters who will help set the stage thrust (stage extension) in the lunchroom on March 1st. Pretty please! The more strong backs we have for this the faster it will go. See the Sign Up Genius for more info.

Ads for the Program:

Each student gets one quarter page ad in the play program included with the play fee. You also have the option of purchasing more ad space. Please see the attachment for all the details. Deadline is March 1st.

Willy Wonka News– Week 4

Greetings Wonka parents!

PLEASE READ THIS ENTIRE EMAIL. And remember, these emails are archived on the school play website here along with a lot of other useful play info. Bookmark it for easy access!

Rehearsal Reminders:

This week we have regular rehearsals on Monday and Thursday.

However, we are aware of the Eckstein open house on Thursday evening. We will assume that if you have a 5th grader, we will not see them at rehearsal on Thursday. Please email bryantschoolplay@gmail.com if your 5th grader WILL be at rehearsal and not at the open house. Also, if you finish with the open house before rehearsal is over, please consider dropping off your 5th grader late. Some of rehearsal is better than none!

Also, remind your kids that they are to be off-book (meaning their lines are memorized) this week!

More Volunteer Opportunities:

We have more volunteer opportunities on the Sign Up Genius! Our most pressing needs are for volunteers for flat painting tomorrow and next week, but there are also other opportunities including rehearsal chaperones and costume parade monitors. See the Sign Up Genius for more info.

Costumes:

Stay tuned for costume suggestions for your child coming soon. The Costume Parade will be during rehearsal on February 25, which is the deadline for students to have their costumes. Remember– there is a $25 maximum spending limit per student.

Rehearsal Chaperones:

Remember to be in the lunch room at 6:00pm. Check in with Sadie with Seattle’s Performers. She will be near the steps of the stage. Plan to stay until all students have been picked up. Hopefully this will be shortly after 8:00pm. Seattle’s Performers staff are not responsible for the kids after 8:00pm and will not be staying on site after that.

  • Absent students— Please come to rehearsal with your cell phone (if you don’t have one, email us and we can problem solve). After Seattle Performers staff call role they will give you the names of those who are absent. Please text these names to Liza on Mondays 206.240.4818 and Traci on Thursdays 206.816.2362. That’s all!
