Make plans to get up early on Wednesday, May 10 for a Bike to School Day celebration. Gather at Top Pot on 35th Ave NE in Wedgwood after 7 a.m. for free donuts and coffee, then at 7:30 a.m. we’ll ride to school together. This will be a parent-escorted event; kids must come with a parent.
It is time to track trips for Week 1 of Bike Month! Please go to our online trip tracker and tell us how many times you biked this week. This year there will be prizes for all students who log at least 1 trip, for students who bike the most trips, and for the classroom that has the most trips in May.
We have a feeling there will be lots of winners this year: this Friday, the Bryant Bike Fairy counted 82 bikes parked in the bike racks this Friday, and she caught 5 students biking on their way to school, a majority of whom were kindergartners. We here at B2B HQ have extra respect for young students who cruise our hilly environs with not so many gears!
What is the Writers’ Celebration? Every year at Bryant the PTSA celebrates the accomplishments of all our student writers by hosting the Writers’ Celebration, a schoolwide event during which each student has the opportunity to share a piece of writing — a book, story or poem he or she has authored — in small, multi-age groups. This is one of the few activities at Bryant that mixes all grade levels, and it is heartwarming to watch the older students help and encourage the younger ones. The students work long and hard on these projects and are very proud to share them with their peers.
Where do you come in? We will need volunteers to lead a group of six or seven enthusiastic students for 50 minutes. Each group will be facilitated either by 1-2 volunteer leaders or by a teacher. Please note that due to space constraints, we will be unable to accommodate any additional parent spectators.
How do you sign up?
Step 1: In order to lead a group, you must complete all SPS volunteer requirements (which include a screening disclosure form, taking a short online course, reviewing online docs, and providing copy of photo ID). Please take a moment to complete all volunteer requirements. If you have already done so this year, you do not need to do it again.
Step 2: Complete the volunteer request web form or complete and return the paper form that will come home with your child in early May.
Questions? Please contact Volunteer Lead, Brent Aliverti.
Did you know that the Learning Landscape is maintained by parent volunteers? The school district mows the lawn and occasionally will prune larger trees, but all weeding and managing of the grounds is done by volunteers! Please, help us keep our Learning Landscape. Just dig in and start weeding, or come to a Fun Family Gardening meeting on Fridays after drop off.
Every Friday after drop off, meet in the Hands on Garden for organized group gardening. Help us keep the Learning Landscape ready for students! No experience required and younger siblings are welcome.
If there is a rainy day dropoff, we will not meet that week.
We’re looking for volunteers who are able to help garden with classes during the school day. Please let us know if you’d be willing to help out! Contact Sam Fogg at email@example.com or Pamela Kuhtz at firstname.lastname@example.org
The 2017 Writer’s Celebration is right around the corner, and that means it’s time for the annual bookmark design contest! Bryant students are invited to design a bookmark based on a book (or related to a book or reading) on the bookmark entry form. Two winners from each grade will have their bookmarks copied and distributed during this year’s Writer’s Celebration (May 25th). Please use only dark ink or pencil, no colors. Your design must fit within the box shown on this page. Also, no tracing is allowed.
Entries must be received by Wednesday, May 10th. Questions? Contact Rachel Gleeson
