Bell times
Starting in the 2017-18 school year the school day (except for Wednesdays) will be 20 minutes longer. The district has decided to add the time, across all of its schools, by extending the school day 10 minutes in both the morning and afternoon. Currently the district uses a three-tier bell schedule, where each school follows one of three schedules. This is so the limited number of buses has enough time to serve the 90+ schools in the district.
Two-Tier vs. Three-Tier Schedules
Update 6/14: The city council just approved funding for the district to move to a two-tier schedule. Read councilmember (and Bryant parent) Rob Johnson’s statement, and watch for the district to officially announce a move to the two-tier system by June 16. There is a proposal to move to a two-tier bell schedule, with elementary schools all on one schedule and middle and high schools on a second schedule. This would require a one-time grant of $2.3 million from the city to add buses to the fleet. On June 7, the SPS Board voted to approve moving to a two-tier schedule if the city votes to approve the funding on Wednesday, June 14. If you would like to see this happen, please contact the mayor’s office and city councilmembers (including our own Councilmember Rob Johnson) and let them know you a support two-tier schedule. You can review schedules district-wide, but here are Bryant’s possible schedules depending on which tier structure the district decides on.

Wednesday Early Releases
Regardless of what the daily bell schedule is, every Wednesday after the first week, students will get out 75 minutes early. This time will used for staff and teacher collaboration. The weekly early release eliminates the current schedule of 2-hour release days that happen 5 times a year.
