Families, Please Join Us for Our Veterans Day Assembly!

Thursday, November 7th
9:00-9:40 AM
Bryant Lunchroom/Gym

Dear Bryant Families,

We would like to invite families in our community to attend our Veterans Day Assembly at Bryant on Thursday, November 7th, from 9:00-9:40 AM. There will be several classroom presentations, and 5th, 4th, and 3rd grade students will be performing as a classroom choir. Cub Scout Pack 144 will also be performing the color guard.

We encourage you to invite veterans you know to attend our assembly. At the end of the assembly, we will ask them to come up to the front to be acknowledged for their service. We look forward to honoring our U.S. Armed Forces service members, including veterans and those currently serving on active duty or the National Guard or the Reserve.

Please sign-in as a visitor at the main office before going to the lunchroom/gym for our assembly. After signing in, please enter through the east doors to the gym or the north doors of the lunchroom near the water fountains. Please do not enter the west doors near the bathrooms for traffic and set-up reasons.

If you have any questions, please contact Michaela Koerner Storkman (K-5 Music Specialist) at makoerner@seattleschools.org.

Thank you for making our assembly meaningful.

SPEAKER: Mindfulness for the Whole Family

All parents and caregivers are welcome to attend our first Speaker: Wednesday, October 2nd at 7-8:30 pm in the Bryant Library

This 90-minute workshop teaches you the foundational principles of mindfulness and the impact it’s having in our schools and at home. You’ll be able to understand the benefits of Mindfulness and learn how to practice Mindfulness at home as a family.

Cultivating Mindfulness helps you:
-Create Self-Awareness
-Develop emotional regulation skills
-Increase your ability to focus

Why Mindfulness Matters:
Practicing mindfulness electrifies our ability to regulate mood and emotion and reduces stress and anxiety.  For parents this means stronger relationships with their children through empathy and self-awareness.  For students this means greater emotional stability for a fulfilling life and mental clarity necessary for deep focus and peace.

About the Instructor:
Kristy Banks has a Masters in Elementary and Special Education from Teacher’s College Columbia University and is a certified Behavior Analyst. She continues her mindfulness education journey through workshops and courses.

Since 2010, Kristy has been a special education teacher at the Kent School District, teaching grades two through twelve. She first introduced mindfulness into her classroom in 2015. Struck by the impact it had, colleagues requested she introduce mindfulness in their classrooms. Over the past four years, she’s helped a dozen classrooms and over a hundred kids experience the joy of meditation.

Time to plan your grade-level bash!

Now that the weather is starting to turn reliably warmer and dryer, it’s the perfect time to think about an end-of-the-year party for your families.

The Bryant PTSA is excited to be offering grants for you to hold an event for families in your grade level. Bryant PTSA will grant up to $500 to each grade level to build engagement. The grant is intended to help you meet and form connections with each other, in the hopes that stronger social relationships will translate to a stronger school community for our children.

Some ideas for FUN ways to spend your grant:

  • Hold a potluck cookout at a local park
  • Host a game night at a community center or at school
  • Host a movie night with free concessions (the PTSA has a movie license that would cover this!)
  • Put on a talent show
  • Host a summer-time event to get families together outside of the school-year

Download the grade-level grant info sheet, or email ptsaexec@bryantschool.org for info today.
