All parents and caregivers are welcome to attend our first Speaker: Wednesday, October 2nd at 7-8:30 pm in the Bryant Library
This 90-minute workshop teaches you the foundational principles of mindfulness and the impact it’s having in our schools and at home. You’ll be able to understand the benefits of Mindfulness and learn how to practice Mindfulness at home as a family.
Cultivating Mindfulness helps you: -Create Self-Awareness -Develop emotional regulation skills -Increase your ability to focus
Why Mindfulness Matters: Practicing mindfulness electrifies our ability to regulate mood and emotion and reduces stress and anxiety. For parents this means stronger relationships with their children through empathy and self-awareness. For students this means greater emotional stability for a fulfilling life and mental clarity necessary for deep focus and peace.
About the Instructor: Kristy Banks has a Masters in Elementary and Special Education from Teacher’s College Columbia University and is a certified Behavior Analyst. She continues her mindfulness education journey through workshops and courses.
Since 2010, Kristy has been a special education teacher at the Kent School District, teaching grades two through twelve. She first introduced mindfulness into her classroom in 2015. Struck by the impact it had, colleagues requested she introduce mindfulness in their classrooms. Over the past four years, she’s helped a dozen classrooms and over a hundred kids experience the joy of meditation.
In an effort to strengthen our school-to-home communications, all Bryant teachers, including specialists (Art, Library, Music, PE) will be posting updates and class materials on Schoology, Seattle Schools’ learning management system. To get set-up on Schoology, we have created this step-by-step document.

There’s nothing like finishing off the first week back (or if you’re a Kindergartner, celebrating the last Friday before school starts) at Bryant with ice cream! This is the ever-popular event for families to rub shoulders with old buddies, teachers, and new friends. One bowl for $3 or two bowls for $5 supports the 4th Graders as they start raising funds for 5th Grade Islandwood camp. Enter through the set of three doors on the southwest side of the building adjacent to the Bryant Garden.
Calling all Bryant 4th Grade Families! This is a BIG 4th-grade fundraiser for our class trip to Islandwood next year. We need lots of adult volunteers and 4th-grade scoopers to help pull this off! Please click on the link to reserve your spot now!
2nd annual Back to Bryant! Ease back into the school year with a visit the day before school! Check out your new classroom, establish a nickname with your new teacher, and see some classmates at this casual re-entry to the year. No need to bring anything other than yourself.
When you’ve had enough classroom time, come join everyone out on the schoolyard for some lemonade until you’re ready to go home and get prepared for the big day.
Join your student for lunch on Friday, June 7th. It’s a great opportunity to shake off authors’ jitters before settling down to the important work of sharing their writing. Grab a quick bite before you lead your writers’ circle or take your time and catch up with other parents and favorite teachers. Little siblings welcome!
We’ll need help too! Please consider volunteering for short jobs ranging from right after drop-off to just after lunch. Look for sign up forms in kid mail this week and return by Friday, May 24th.
What is the Writers’ Celebration? Every year at Bryant the PTSA celebrates the accomplishments of all our student writers by hosting the Writers’ Celebration, a schoolwide event during which each student has the opportunity to share a piece of writing – a book, story or poem he or she has authored — in small, multi-age groups. This is one of the few activities at Bryant that mixes all grade levels, and it is heartwarming to watch the older students help and encourage the younger ones. The students work long and hard on these projects and are very proud to share them with their peers.
Where do you come in? We will need volunteers to lead a group of six or seven enthusiastic students for 50 minutes. Each group will be facilitated either by 1-2 volunteer leaders or by a teacher. Please note that due to space constraints, we will be unable to accommodate any additional parent spectators.
How do you sign up?
Step 1: In order to lead a group, you must complete all SPS volunteer requirements (which include a screening disclosure form, taking a short online course, reviewing online docs, and providing copy of photo ID). You can find the 2018-2019 Volunteer Requirements here. Please take a moment to complete all volunteer requirements. If you have already done so this year, you do not need to do it again.
Step 2: Complete the Writers’ Celebration volunteer web form or complete and return the paper form that will come home with your child in mid May.
Now that the weather is starting to turn reliably warmer and dryer, it’s the perfect time to think about an end-of-the-year party for your families.
The Bryant PTSA is excited to be offering grants for you to hold an event for families in your grade level. Bryant PTSA will grant up to $500 to each grade level to build engagement. The grant is intended to help you meet and form connections with each other, in the hopes that stronger social relationships will translate to a stronger school community for our children.
Some ideas for FUN ways to spend your grant:
Hold a potluck cookout at a local park
Host a game night at a community center or at school
Host a movie night with free concessions (the PTSA has a movie license that would cover this!)
Put on a talent show
Host a summer-time event to get families together outside of the school-year
Bryant’s 4th and 5th graders have been memorizing, singing, lighting, set-painting, rehearsing, and creating a magical musical for our community to enjoy! Tickets are $5 per person and can be purchased at the door on the night of the play or on the playground after school March 21-22. Play times are:
Thursday, March 21 at 7pm
Friday, March 22 at 7pm
Saturday, March 23 at 2pm or 7pm
Baked goods will be offered for sale before the show and at intermission; bring cash if you want to purchase delicious treats.
